IT Services Market Pulse: Week of November 4, 2026
AI hardware lifts North American distribution to a record $28.9B, sponsor-backed buyers keep acquiring regional MSPs and VARs, and clients signal unmet demand for security advisory.
Each week Magis Advisory reviews sector reports, deal announcements and channel research on the IT services and solutions market. Here is what stood out this week for owners thinking about growth, recapitalization or an eventual exit.
Themes this week
Hardware volume is up, but margins are not. AI infrastructure demand pushed North American IT distribution to a record quarter, yet distributors and resellers reported thinner gross margins. Buyers tend to value recurring services and gross profit, not top-line hardware growth.
Large outsourcing contracts are getting shorter and cheaper. Some of the largest IT services firms reported shrinking revenue, weaker bookings and clients choosing two-year terms over five-year deals. Specialized, outcome-focused providers are better placed than generalists.
Private equity platforms keep buying founder-owned firms. This week brought several add-on acquisitions of long-established regional MSPs and VARs, plus an accounting firm buying an MSP. Vertical focus, public-sector contract vehicles and security depth stood out as what acquirers wanted.
Security advisory is an open opportunity. Survey data shows most managed services clients would pay for strategic security advice, yet very few providers offer it as a formal practice. Firms that build this capability add recurring revenue and stand out to buyers.
